Maria Luisa Pizzighella

Aline Zeltner (*1980 Biel) is a keen observer of nature and culture. In her works she plays with the human perception of images.

In the series of works "Pro Forma", Aline Zeltner takes her cue from traditional Christmas cookie cutters, which we automatically associate with memories and feelings.

By using this familiar form, but changing it and multiplying its size, the artist creates a typical work for Zeltner - she takes up something familiar to us, but plays with our perception and so creates moments of irritation. The serial and industrial production of the baking forms, is also highly individualized by her. The character of the material, through the processing in chrome steel, refers to the typical muted shine of the industrial product; yet each sculpture is individual in dimension and form. In this way, the artist addresses the current theme of "mass individualization." We live in the age of mass individualization. No two people get the same Google search result, see the same products on Zalando, have the same Facebook feed or Spotify history. Every smartphone is unique two minutes after its first use. Yet there is a standard behind it. Aline Zeltner deconstructs standardization by subtly citing it.

Already in her early series "Copyride" from 2011, she uses industrial production techniques to create unique pieces by moving sheets of paper over a photocopier and thereby developing individual, psychedelic and organic-looking works. She now continues this series of works, combining them with the large-scale chrome sculptures in the exhibition "Pro Forma".

In the unique location in the pavilion of the Brünnen park, Aline Zeltner has the opportunity to work outdoors for the first time. The garden pavilion, which was probably originally built in the 17th century as a washing and oven house, is located in a French garden complex, which Aline Zeltner will play with her installation and sound performances in collaboration with the percussionist Maria Luisa Pizzighella.

Aline Zeltner's works have been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad, e.g. at the Kunsthalle Bern, the Kunsthalle Basel, the Centre Pasquart Biel, the akku Kunstplattform in Emmenbrücke or the Galerie Klemm's in Berlin. Her works are represented in the collections of the cities of Basel and Biel, the cantons of Berne and Solothurn, the FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland and in private collections.
